Quantify Strategic Insights was pleased to recently support the Regional Australia Institute with a detailed population, economic and workforce profile of Regional Australia.

The work examined how Regional Australia is changing, not just in terms of population growth, but in terms of migration, ageing, workforce capacity, industry structure and long-term regional resilience.

A central insight from the analysis is that regional growth is not simply about attracting more people. It is about ensuring that population growth is matched with the workforce, housing, infrastructure, services and economic capacity needed to sustain it.

Regional Australia is highly diverse. Regional Cities, Connected Lifestyle Areas, Industry & Service Hubs and Heartland Regions each face different growth pressures, labour market challenges and policy needs. Understanding these differences is essential if regional policy and investment are to be effective.

Our work brought together:

  • demographic and migration analysis

  • population scenarios to 2050

  • regional typologies and spatial analysis

  • employment, industry and labour market profiling

  • policy-relevant insights for long-term regional planning

A key finding from this project is that Regional Australia’s future is not predetermined. With coordinated policy settings, stronger workforce planning and targeted investment, regional communities can play a much larger role in Australia’s future growth story.
